IPL 2026 fever ends; spotlight returns to cinema

Every year, IPL affects the cinema industry considerably, and this year was no different. Tollywood was hit the most by IPL 2026, with occupancy levels for Telugu films remaining alarmingly low. In particular, the first and second shows saw very low turnout, resulting in the temporary closure of theatres. Veera Bhadrudu and a few other dubbed films performed well, but there was no respite for Telugu cinema.

IPL 2026 ended with RCB lifting the trophy for the second time, and the euphoria surrounding the biggest cricket tournament has officially concluded in India. With this, cinema is set to take center stage, and what better start can Tollywood dream of than Ram Charan’s Peddi hitting the big screens this week?

After a long time, a star hero’s film is arriving, and the industry is highly confident that the movie will witness packed houses all over. Following Peddi, notable films such as Sing Geetham, Maa Inti Bangaaram, Lenin, Vishwanath & Sons, and The Paradise are slated for release over the next three months.
