Easily one of the most memorable events in the history of Telugu Cinema, ‘Memu Saitam’ has brought down the curtains in a grand style. The event was a noble gesture by the entire Telugu film fraternity to help raise funds for the HudHud cyclone affected Uttarandhra people, and saw all the luminaries of Tollywood on one platform. Various performances and activities saw an enthusiastic participation by all the Tollywood stars, and this gave an unbeatable charm to this successful event.
Organized with a noble intention of raising funds for the affected while spreading fun and frolic at the same time, ‘Memu Saitam’ has collected a mammoth Rs. 11.51 crores, and the amount was handed over to the CM of AP Nara Chandrababu Naidu at the event’s closing ceremony. Adding to this huge contribution, several other people and organizations too have chipped in with their contributions. Film star turned politician Balakrishna’s constituency people have donated a generous Rs. 43 lakhs and the website www.manabalayya.com has contributed Rs. 1.11 lakhs.
Not stopping with this, the organizers received donations from Gemini TV to the tune of Rs. 3.50 crores, Rs. 15 lakhs from Big C mobiles, Rs. 13 lakhs from Malabar Gold and Rs. 10 lakhs from Aasra Fondation. Apart from these donations, the official website www.memusaitam.com too has invited online donations from common public, and many generous hearts have contributed up to Rs. 20 lakhs till last night. With the online contributions still open, the organizers aim to collect more donations, which will be used for many developmental activities in Vizag and other affected areas. Long live Tollywood!
