Kamal Haasan initiates talks with Karnataka CM about Cauvery issue
Published on Jun 5, 2018 1:22 am IST

The Cauvery water sharing agreement between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka has been one of the longest battles in the past three decades or so. With neither of the states in the mood to take a back step, the Cauvery issue has caused a lot of rift between the two states, and it is highlighted everytime a Tamil film is about to release in Karnataka, or whenever there’s a drought in both the states.

Recently, the local film body in Karnataka decided that Rajinikanth’s Kaala and Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam 2 won’t be allowed to release in the state, and it triggered a big debate online. Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan has reached out to Karnataka CM, Kumaraswamy, to try and find a solution to the Cauvery issue, much to everyone’s surprise. The actor-turned-politician also stressed that he didn’t meet Kumaraswamy to discuss Kaala’s release issue.

Soon after the meeting, when the two addressed the media, Kumaraswamy stated that he was happy with the interaction with Kamal Haasan and promised that he will continue to try to find an amicable solution to various problems that are unsolved between the two states. Thanking him for the gesture, Kamal Haasan said, “Your warm hospitality and openness in discussing the Cauvery issue & various other issues concerning our two states is fully reciprocated sir. I assure you I will do my best in being a trustworthy bridge between Karnataka & Tamilnadu. Thank you for a heartwarming meeting.”
