Suriya scored his career’s biggest hit with Karuppu, a fantasy action entertainer. The movie, directed by RJ Balaji, collected over Rs. 300 crores at the worldwide box office. At the end of the film, a sequel titled Karuppu vs. Vellai was also announced.
In an interview, RJ Balaji was asked about the sequel’s development, to which he replied, “Many are asking when Karuppu vs. Vellai is going to happen. I shouldn’t assemble Part 2 or Part 3. They should happen organically. As the elections just got over in 2026, Karuppu 2 won’t be relevant now. Karuppu vs. Vellai is about God vs. Politics. I’ll have to wait and observe what’s happening with the new government. There should be some spice in politics.”
Trisha Krishnan played the female lead. Anagha Ravi, Indrans, Swasika, Sshivada, Natti Subramaniam, Mansoor Ali Khan, and others played supporting roles. Karuppu was produced by SR Prakash Babu and SR Prabhu under the Dream Warrior Pictures banner, while Sai Abhyankkar composed the music.
