Young hero Kiran Abbavaram had scored a decent hit with his previous outing, Vinaro Bhagyamu Vishnu Katha, in February. Naturally, expectations on his next him, Meter, were high. Yesterday, the film was released in cinemas worldwide to poor reviews and even audience’s patronage was quite underwhelming.
In a shocking feat, Meter managed to collect less than Rs 25 lakh share from as gross of Rs 55 lakh at the ticket counters in Nizam, Andhra and Ceded regions on its opening day. What’s startling is that several centres in the twin Telugu states have registered deficits on the opening day itself. Meter needs at least Rs 4 crore plus share to land its buyers into profits, but that seems highly unlikely.
Kollywood actress Athulya Ravi is the female lead in Meter, which is directed by debutant Ramesh Kaduri. Chiranjeevi and Hemalatha Pedamallu have jointly produced the film under leading banner Mythri Movie Makers’ presentation.
