Hum Tum director Kunal Kohli has made a startling revelation, stating that some of the biggest directors in the industry wanted Dhurandhar to fail. Starring Ranveer Singh and directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar raised the bar for spy action thrillers in Indian cinema. The film has also created history by becoming the first Indian franchise to earn over Rs. 3000 crores worldwide.

In a conversation with The Indian Express Screen, Kunal said, “Even when the industry doesn’t support a film, the film still works. Nobody supported Dhurandhar. The biggest directors I spoke to on the phone said: ‘Monday ko baith jayegi.’ Monday ko aur chal gayi.”

The Fanaa director further added that the industry didn’t expect Border 2 to succeed either. He stated that many believed the film would crash in the second week, but it went on to collect over Rs. 300 crores. “It’s done Rs. 300 crores plus! What are you saying?! That’s a blockbuster. End of discussion. It doesn’t matter if the industry supports you or not,” he concluded.
