Mollywood matinee idols Mammootty and Mohanlal shared screen space in the spy action thriller Patriot, which hit the big screens yesterday. Despite minimal promotions, the film collected around Rs. 28 crores on day 1, emerging as the second biggest opener for a Malayalam film.
The presence of two legends helped the film rake in solid moolah, but due to poor reviews and word of mouth, Patriot came crashing down on day 2. On BookMyShow, the film’s second-day ticket sales are less than 50% of day 1, indicating a steep decline.
Given the heavy costs involved, Patriot is now heading towards a massive failure. Patriot’s box office trending once again proves that Malayalam audiences prefer strong content over star-studded films with weak substance.
Fahadh Faasil and Nayanthara played key roles. Directed by Mahesh Narayanan, the film also features Kunchacko Boban and Revathi in important roles. The film is produced by Anto Joseph and KG Anil Kumar.
