Independence Day week releases, Coolie and War 2, didn’t meet the mammoth expectations and are heading towards loss-making ventures both in domestic and international markets. Both movies received mixed reviews and couldn’t hold well at the ticket windows. In North America, the big-ticket entertainers posted below-par numbers.
Superstar Rajinikanth’s Coolie registered an all-time record among Tamil films for premiere shows with a gross collection of over $3 million. However, after that, the film could only add another $3.79 million, taking its total tally to $6.79 million. The Telugu version contributed $1.84 million.
Coming to NTR and Hrithik Roshan’s War 2, the movie has so far earned a little over $4 million in the territory. The Telugu version collected less than $1 million, which was not expected at all. Given the huge star cast and high budgets expectations were so high on both projects but unfortunately things didn’t fall in place.
