Following its remarkable success in North America, the Curry Barker-directed indie horror film Obsession was released in India last Friday. The movie opened on a fair note with about Rs. 1.5 crore nett on Friday and collected around Rs. 7.5 crore nett (inclusive of Rs. 50 lakhs previews) during its first weekend.
While the jump in collections over the weekend indicated a good reception from audiences, the film’s sensational hold on Monday has put it on track for a success story in India. On the first working day, the movie earned a brilliant Rs. 2 crore nett, which is higher than its opening-day collection.
After Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, Obsession is set to emerge as the second Hollywood horror hit at the Indian box office this year. Made on a modest budget of $1 million, the film has grossed over $150 million worldwide so far.
