With Jana Nayagan failing to release as scheduled, Karthi’s Vaa Vaathiyaar took advantage of the situation and released only in Tamil on January 14, 2026. Directed by Nalan Kumarasamy, the film, however, failed to make a strong impact at the box office.
The movie is now heading to Amazon Prime Video for streaming. The platform has announced that the film will premiere tomorrow (January 28) in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam.
It is shocking to see a Pongal release arrive on the OTT platform within just two weeks, something that has not happened with a star hero’s film in recent times. Whether the movie will find better reception among OTT audiences remains to be seen.
Krithi Shetty plays the female lead opposite Karthi, while the supporting cast includes Sathyaraj, Rajkiran, Anandaraj, Shilpa Manjunath, Karunakaran, G. M. Sundar, Ramesh Thilak, and P. L. Thenappan. The film is produced by K. E. Gnanavel Raja under the Studio Green banner, with music composed by Santhosh Narayanan.
