After the path-breaking success of the Dhurandhar franchise, Ranveer Singh is set to star in Pralay, a zombie thriller set in a post-apocalyptic world. Kalyani Priyadarshan plays the female lead. Popular filmmaker Hansal Mehta, father of Pralay director Jai Mehta, says the film is something that hasn’t been attempted at this scale in India before.

The film, bankrolled by Ranveer Singh himself, will be made on a budget of Rs. 300 crores. In an interaction with The Hollywood Reporter India, Hansal Mehta clarified that Pralay is an original subject and not based on the Portuguese novel Blindness, as speculated on social media.

Hansal Mehta added, “Jai had been working on this idea for a long time. When Ranveer saw his work, he reached out to him, and Jai pitched it to him. Once Ranveer liked the idea, we invested in developing it—helping Jai create the world he wants to present. Pralay will feature unprecedented world-building for a Hindi film, creating a dystopian city ravaged by zombies.”
