Prem Keetanu is the Hindi remake of the Malayalam blockbuster Premalu. The film stars Veer Pahariya and Aafiya Sayed in the lead roles and is directed by Apoorv Singh Karki. The rom-com entertainer has been facing criticism ever since its teaser was released. Netizens stated that the Hindi remake doesn’t carry the same charm and magic as the original. Also, many noticed that a lot of changes were made.
The movie arrived in theatres on October 2 and earned a little over Rs. 1 crore nett in its first weekend, meaning an outright rejection from the audience. The biggest mistake made by the Prem Keetanu team was clashing with the juggernaut Drishyam: The Conclusion, which has been doing mind-blowing business.
Even over the weekend, many shows of Prem Keetanu were replaced by Drishyam 3 and other films due to poor occupancies, suggesting just how big a flop the Hindi remake is. Remakes are no longer working, as we have seen recently with Akshay Kumar’s Haiwaan as well, and it would be better if filmmakers avoided them.
