Director Mari Selvaraj has officially announced his next film, Manjanathi, which marks his first collaboration with veteran composer Ilaiyaraaja. The filmmaker has often expressed his admiration for the music maestro and revealed that he waited for the right project before approaching him, believing he needed greater maturity as a director to do justice to such a collaboration.
While the makers are yet to officially announce the cast, Priyanka Arul Mohan has confirmed her involvement as the female lead. Known largely for her commercial roles, the actress’s association with a Mari Selvaraj film has sparked curiosity among fans eager to see her in a different cinematic space.
Adding to the buzz, Manjanathi is rumoured to be a continuation of Selvaraj’s acclaimed Vaazhai. Inspired by the director’s own childhood experiences, Vaazhai struck a chord with audiences, and reports suggest the new film could explore the protagonist’s journey into adolescence, further expanding that deeply personal narrative.
Manjanathi is being produced by Divya Mari Selvaraj under Navvi Studios in association with Fortune Entertainment, while Think Music India has been brought on board as the audio partner.
