Producers’ craze for combinations over strong stories isn’t a healthy trend: Bekkam Venugopal

Producer Bekkam Venugopal, who bankrolled the hit movies such as Tata Birla Madhyalo Laila, Nenu Local, Prema Ishq Kaadal and Hushaaru, will be celebrating his birthday tomorrow (April 27). The passionate producer is currently busy overseeing a handful of projects that are in various stages of production.

In a latest media interaction on the eve of his birthday, Venugopal said that he produced 12 movies independently and another 4 movies in association with other banners over the past 16 years. He further said that even though he has mostly produced content-oriented low budget movies so far, he is now lining up a couple of big budget entertainers. More details about these projects will be out at an appropriate time.

A firm believer in choosing strong stories targeting youths and family audiences, Venugopal says that producers’ craze for star combinations over strong stories is not a healthy trend for the existence of the film industry. “Even though such movies become super hits, producers hardly make any profits due to the skyrocketing remunerations and budgets. Only producers who make movies out of passion, dedication and experience will score success here. Even OTT platforms are refusing to buy movies that are made with poor content and substandard quality,” he added.

Talking about his upcoming projects, Venugopal revealed that his next release would be Roti, Kapda, Romance featuring newcomers. He will also produce Sudigali Sudheer’s next film in association with producer Chandrashekhar Reddy. The film will be helmed by Paagal director Naresh. Also, a unique thriller for OTT, featuring Avika Gor under Swaroop’s direction, is in the pipeline. Venugopal concluded saying that his journey with top producer Dil Raju will continue forever.
