The prestigious and ambitious film Varanasi, helmed by visionary filmmaker SS Rajamouli, is currently under production and is slated for a grand theatrical release on April 7, 2027. Starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran in pivotal roles, the film is currently being promoted in Paris.
During the screenings of RRR and Baahubali, Rajamouli offered a glimpse into what audiences can expect from Varanasi. He revealed that the film will transport viewers through the untamed wilderness of Africa, the icy expanses of Antarctica, the divine world of the Ramayana, large scale natural disasters, and breathtaking fantasy elements. Despite its grand scale and visual spectacle, he emphasised that the emotional bond between a father and son will remain the very soul of the film.
The director also shared that a major portion of the shoot is expected to be completed by the end of September, following which the remaining post production work will gather pace.
Apart from the lead cast, the film also features Prakash Raj in a prominent role. MM Keeravaani is composing the music, while KL Narayana and SS Karthikeya are bankrolling the project. Designed specifically for the IMAX experience and other premium formats, Varanasi is shaping up to be one of the biggest cinematic spectacles ever mounted by Rajamouli.
