Superstars in South Indian cinema are treated like demigods by their fans and we have seen numerous examples of how fans work towards noble causes initiated by their favourite actors. One such example is Chiranjeevi who drove home the point that donating blood is very important and thousands of his fans followed him. Now, it’s Rajinikanth who’s making waves in Tamil Nadu. Recently, on the eve of his birthday, Rajinikanth had appealed to his fans to quit smoking and drinking. In a speech which he had delivered to his fans, Rajinikanth had said, “I was a chain smoker and used to drink a lot earlier which led to a lot of health problems.
In fact, I began recovering only after I quit both these habits. I plead with you to quit smoking, it is addictive and will ruin your health. From Sivaji itself I stopped smoking on screen. Smoking is really injurious to your health, please stop it immediately.” His words seem to have had a great effect on his fans. No wonder, scores of fans were spotted in various parts of Tamil Nadu making bonfire from cigarettes. Several onlookers were amazed at what Rajinikanth’s fans had done after what their favourite actor had said. It’s indeed a great gesture both from the superstar and his fans.
