Ramayana: Mind-blowing budget allotted for promotions?

Expectations for Ramayana are soaring with each passing day. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the two-part film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana.

Leading Hollywood studio Sony Pictures has acquired the international distribution rights for Ramayana. The studio is planning a massive worldwide release for the mythological epic. What is even more astonishing is that latest reports state Sony Pictures is will spend a staggering Rs. 235 crore on international promotions alone, while the makers will contribute another Rs. 140 crore.

This takes the total publicity budget to an unprecedented Rs. 375 crore, which is set to become a record in the history of Indian cinema. The film is being mounted on a grand scale with music by A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer.
