Before entering films and winning a Filmfare Award for Baby, Vijai Bulganin made a name for himself with several popular independent songs. One of them, Koyila, featuring Alekya Harika and Vinay Shanmukh, became a major hit and has crossed 78 million views.
Interestingly, Bulganin revealed that the song was initially pitched to three to four filmmakers for use in their movies, but none of them came on board. He and the team then decided to release it independently, and the song went on to receive tremendous love from music listeners.
Had any of those filmmakers picked the song, it could have potentially become a highlight of their film too. But the rejections ultimately worked in Bulganin’s favour, as Koyila found its own audience and emerged as a big independent hit.
