The Andhra Pradesh High Court has dismissed the petition challenging Pawan Kalyan’s continuation in films while serving as Deputy Chief Minister, effectively closing a case that raised questions about conflict of interest and use of public office.

Filed on August 19, 2025, by former IAS officer Vijay Kumar, the Public Interest Litigation alleged misuse of government machinery and public funds, particularly in connection with the promotion of Hari Hara Veera Mallu. It argued that continuing an acting career while holding executive office creates a conflict between public duty and private interest.

The petition sought a ban on Pawan Kalyan acting in films during his tenure, along with restrictions on promotions, endorsements, and other commercial activities. It also called for an investigation into the alleged misuse of state resources.

During hearings in August and September 2025, the state government opposed the plea, stating that there is no legal or constitutional provision barring a minister from acting in films. It also maintained that the allegations lacked substantive evidence.

The High Court found no grounds to order an investigation and proceeded with adjourned hearings. In its final ruling, the court dismissed the petition, stating that no statutory or constitutional restriction prevents a public representative from pursuing a profession such as acting. It further noted that the claims did not establish actionable misuse of authority and that restrictions cannot be imposed based solely on ethical concerns without clear legal backing.

With the petition dismissed, there are no restrictions on Pawan Kalyan’s film career. The ruling affirms that, under existing law, holding public office does not automatically prohibit engagement in private professional activities.

Pawan Kalyan was recently seen in Ustaad Bhagat Singh, directed by Harish Shankar. According to his team, any new project will be officially announced by him.
