Since yesterday, reports have been going viral that Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions acquired the Indian theatrical rights of the much-anticipated Ramayana for Rs. 250 crores.
However, the latest report from Bollywood Hungama states that the rights have indeed been acquired by Dharma Productions, but for Rs. 350 crores, making it the biggest theatrical distribution deal ever and surpassing SRK’s King, whose rights were reportedly sold for Rs. 250 crores.
The report stated, “It’s the biggest theatrical distribution deal of all time. The Rs. 350 crores fetched by Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana is higher than the previous best, King, by a margin of Rs. 100 crores. The expectations are sky high, and the entire film fraternity is bullish on the prospects of Ramayana, produced by Namit Malhotra.”
Plans are underway to give this Ranbir Kapoor starrer the widest release possible. The epic also stars Sai Pallavi, Yash, Sunny Deol, and Ravi Dubey in crucial roles. Nitesh Tiwari is directing the film.
