According to multiple media reports, the OTT deal for Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan has been canceled by Amazon Prime Video. The movie, which was initially slated for release during Pongal 2026, has reportedly been postponed indefinitely due to an ongoing censor dispute.
As per News18 Tamil, the streaming platform had purchased the post-theatrical streaming rights for a mind-blowing Rs. 120 crores. However, the platform has now backed out of the deal as there is no clarity on the film’s release window.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had withheld the censor certificate, stating that a few scenes were hurting religious sentiments and portraying the armed forces in a problematic manner. The movie is currently with the Revising Committee, which is expected to watch the film in the coming days.
The biggie, which is said to be a partial adaptation of Bhagavanth Kesari starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, is directed by H. Vinoth. Pooja Hegde plays the female lead, while Bobby Deol appears as the antagonist. Mamitha Baiju reprises the role originally played by Sreeleela. The film is being bankrolled by KVN Productions.
