The piracy leak of Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan sent shockwaves across the film industry. Due to the uncertainty in the release date following the CBFC issue, Amazon Prime Video backed out of the whopping Rs. 120 crore OTT deal. As per the latest reports, ZEE5 is in the race to bag the post-theatrical streaming rights.
However, the platform is reportedly offering just around Rs. 50 crores, citing the impact of piracy on the film’s business prospects. If true, then it’s a huge blow to the producer as the newly quoted price is not even half of the initial deal.
The new release date will entirely depend on the closure of the OTT deal. Produced by KVN Productions, Jana Nayagan is based on the Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari. Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, and Bobby Deol play pivotal roles. Anirudh is the music composer.
