This year hasn’t been great for Tollywood, both in terms of content and box office collections. Indian cinema witnessed a total of five Rs. 500 crore grossers in this calendar year, and unfortunately, no Telugu film made it to this elite list.
Bollywood dominated 2025 with three Rs. 500 crore grossers. Chhaava, headlined by Vicky Kaushal, Saiyaara, featuring debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, and Dhurandhar, spearheaded by Ranveer Singh crossed the Rs. 500 crore mark globally.
Among these, Chhaava and Dhurandhar are big-ticket entertainers backed by prominent star cast. However, Saiyaara managing to collect Rs. 500 crores despite featuring debut actors makes its achievement even more remarkable.
Coolie and Kantara: Chapter 1 from Kollywood and Sandalwood respectively which had strong buzz from the start crossed the Rs.500 crore mark . While Rajinikanth’s Coolie couldn’t fully live up to the hype, its massive pre-release buzz and casting helped it earn Rs. 500 crores.
On the other hand, Kantara: Chapter 1, directed and headlined by Rishab Shetty, exceeded expectations and turned into a monstrous blockbuster. With over Rs. 800 crores gross, Kantara: Chapter 1 is currently the biggest grosser of Indian cinema in 2025. Looking at the box office trajectory of Dhurandhar, it won’t take much time for Ranveer Singh’s film to surpass Kantara: Chapter 1.
