Tamil star Vijay and director AR Murugadoss’ political drama, Sarkar, led to a huge political controversy upon its release. Several leaders of the ruling AIADMK party alleging that the film portrayed TN government’ welfare schemes in negative light. The government even moved the Madras High Court, demanding an apology from AR Murugadoss.
But in a huge shock, the Madras High Court today reprimanded the Tamil Nadu government for stifling Sarkar team’s creativity and freedom of expression. The court told the TN government that it’s every citizen’s right to criticize any government program or scheme.
The Court also said that seeking an assurance from AR Murugadoss that he will not criticize the government in his future films is equal to stifling of the filmmaker’s creativity. The Court had also questioned the government how a cinematic scene will cause violence among the people.
