Shankar is one of the few directors in South who has set a new standard in terms of VFX, makeup and costumes in his films. Right from the days of Jeans to Robot, he has worked with some of the best technicians in the country and some specialists from Hollywood to get the right look onscreen. In fact, for Robot, he roped in Stan Winston studio for the film’s visual effects and the result was spectacular in the film. For his latest film titled Manoharudu, the maverick filmmaker is working closely with Weta, one of the most famous VFX studios in the world. Weta was co-founded by Peter Jackson, the director of Lord of the Rings (LOTR) trilogy, King Kong and The Hobbit series.

Talking about the progress of Manoharudu, Shankar wrote on his blog that more than 2/3rd of the film has been completed including four songs. The film has been shot in spectacular locales in China, Bangkok Jodhpur and few areas in Tamil Nadu including Kodaikanal, Chennai and Pollachi. “We shot a song in which Vikram had a special make up done by Weta Workshop artist Sean Foot, and Vikram did a top class performance with it. Weta has done a fantastic job which is going to be something new for Indian cinema,” Shankar revealed.

The film is being produced by Aascar Ravichandran and the budget is estimated to be under Rs 100 crores. Vikram and Amy Jackson are playing lead roles in this romantic entertainer. Vikram will be sporting two different looks and he is required to beef up his body for one of the roles. A R Rahman is scoring the music and P C Sreeram is the cinematographer.
