Single screens in Telangana to shut down due to poor occupancy
Published on May 15, 2024 10:55 am IST

For the past couple of months, Tollywood trade has been facing hard times due to the non availability of big budget movies featuring top stars. Adding to this, the ongoing IPL and the general election fever heavily impacted a string of small and medium budget movies that released in the last two months.

Now, in a heartbreaking move, several single screen exhibitors in Telangana have decided to shut down their theaters to lessen their losses. Starting from Friday (May 17), a majority of single screens across Telangana will be closed for a period of 10 days. Theaters are expected to reopen when the situation improves in June.

Even though a handful of yesteryear movies featuring top Tollywood stars had a re-release and performed decently for a weekend, the collections were hardly enough to cover the expenses. Hope the conditions improve at the earliest with the release of high budget entertainers such as Prabhas and Deepika Padukone’s Kalki 2898 AD, Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 : The Rule, and several other pan-India biggies.
