The Telangana Exhibitors Association held a meeting today to discuss an action plan for reviving single screens. Producers Chadalavada Srinivas, Shirish Reddy, Suniel Narang, and a few exhibitors participated in it. After the meeting, the members interacted with the press.
Chadalavada Srinivas said, “If the producer is a father, the exhibitor is like a child. For the last 20 years, exhibitors have been facing many issues. The situation has become worse in 2025. Especially, the condition of exhibitors has been worrisome over the last six months. Only when exhibitors are in a good position does the industry thrive. I extend my support to Suniel Narang and Shirish garu. Producers, exhibitors, and distributors must be on the same page.”
Shirish said, “This is a fight for the greater good of the exhibition sector. Our intention is not to target any film or producer in particular. Theatres in other states are operating on a percentage basis, but that’s not the case here. Please save exhibitors. I wanted to convey one thing to the audience. Even if the government permits it, we won’t allow hiked ticket prices in single screens.”
Telangana State Film Chamber of Commerce Secretary Sridhar said, “We have been fighting for the percentage system since 2008. We tried once again during Hari Hara Veera Mallu, but a rumor was spread that we were going to shut down theatres. We will not close theatres. We will screen films of those who accept the percentage-sharing model. Geetha, SVC, and Suresh Productions have already agreed, and we wish others would follow suit. If that doesn’t happen, we will have no option but to close theatres.”
Suniel Narang said, “This is a serious issue. Even producers are facing losses. We are not able to create facilities and bring new technologies to single screens like multiplexes have. If we can bring Dolby to single screens, audiences will surely come to theatres. If single screens are closed, it will cause losses to distributors and producers as well. Promises are being made, but sadly, they are not being implemented. We also need media support on this issue.”
