The Telangana Exhibitors Association has released a letter making a formal appeal to Tollywood star heroes and producers to move away from the rental system and adopt the percentage-sharing model.
The exhibitors explained that the rental model is no longer viable for single-screen theatres and stated that the percentage-sharing system is necessary to prevent many theatres from shutting down. They highlighted that the percentage model has already been in use for 40 weeks and requested producers to extend it to the remaining weeks reserved for big-ticket entertainers.
The exhibitors further stated that multiplexes are already benefiting from the percentage-sharing system and pointed out that major hits like Pushpa were distributed on a percentage basis in other states. The decline in the theatrical run of films was also mentioned in the letter. What happens next remains to be seen.
