The Odyssey going bonkers in the USA

What Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is doing at the USA box office is nothing short of incredible. Initially, the film faced heat over its casting, but once it arrived in theatres, it took off like a typhoon at the box office. After a solid first weekend, the movie held extraordinarily well on the weekdays, with its first-week domestic total almost reaching the $200 million mark.

Here’s the exciting part now. The second weekend industry projections are pegged at a whopping $85 million for the epic fantasy action drama. For reference, this is bigger than the opening weekend of Nolan’s Oppenheimer. The drop from the first weekend will be just around 32% for The Odyssey, which is monstrous.

At this rate, The Odyssey is tracking for a finish of over $500 million in the domestic market and over $1 billion worldwide. There is a very good chance that the movie might surpass The Dark Knight Rises to emerge as Nolan’s highest-grossing film ever. Whether it emerges the highest R-rated grosser will largely depend on how it performs against Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
