Christopher Nolan’s latest outing, The Odyssey, is off to exceptional reviews from critics. The movie holds a 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with about 300 reviews counted so far. The Odyssey opened with a bang as its US previews earned a massive $17.6 million.

The epic fantasy action drama now holds the biggest preview haul of the year, crossing Toy Story 5 ($17.5 million). The projections hinted at $14 million in previews, but the actuals exceeded the estimates by a good margin, as the initial reception from audiences is outstanding. The Odyssey is an R-rated film and now stands as the third-biggest R-rated preview opener of all time, behind only Deadpool 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine.

In comparison, Nolan’s blockbuster Oppenheimer (also R-rated) made $10.5 million in previews and collected $82 million in its opening weekend in the domestic market. The Odyssey looks set to surpass Oppenheimer’s opening weekend numbers by a big margin.
