Tamil romantic drama 96, headlined by Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan, is regarded as a cult classic by many. The film was commercially a blockbuster, and it still holds a special place in the hearts of the audience. C. Prem Kumar helmed this feel-good love entertainer who later went on to direct another cult classic, Meiyazhagan.

During the latest edition of the Indian Screenwriters Conference, held by the Screenwriters Association of India, Prem Kumar revealed that he initially wanted to make 96 as a Hindi film with Abhishek Bachchan. However, as Prem Kumar didn’t have contacts back then, he didn’t approach the Bollywood actor.

Prem Kumar said, “I know Hindi pretty well. My father grew up in North India, so I was constantly exposed to Hindi cinema in my childhood. I am a big fan of Naseeruddin Shah. Now, I have completed a script that I intend to make in Hindi.” Prem Kumar also directed Jaanu, the Telugu remake of 96. Sharwanand and Samantha played the lead roles.
