Godfather, the Malayalam remake of Mohanlal’s Lucifer, starred Megastar Chiranjeevi in the lead role. Tamil director Mohan Raja directed this flick. But do you know that Bobby was supposed to direct this Telugu remake? In a recent interview, Bobby himself revealed the same.
Bobby said, “Chiranjeevi Garu told me they have the rights of Mohanlal Garu’s Lucifer. Sir told me they are considering me as one of the options. I started watching the film. I watched Lucifer for about 25 times. I felt I was not the right person to deal with a movie like Lucifer. I know my strengths and weaknesses well. When Sardar Gabbar Singh failed, I decided I shouldn’t do films with stories written by some other person.”
Bobby added, “Then I did Jai Lava Kusa. It was a big hit. Even Venky Mama’s script wasn’t mine. I didn’t want to direct that film as well. Even though Venky Mama was a hit, I wasn’t fully satisfied. I cannot handle stories penned by other writers. A lot of things were running through my mind when Megastar Garu told me about Godfather. How can I say no to Chiranjeevi Garu, whom I consider a demigod? After thinking a lot, I told Chiru Garu that I couldn’t handle the project.”
