Even though Mani Ratnam’s production house Madras Talkies had never made an official announcement, reports of Tamil film lyricist Vairamuthu penning all the lyrics for the director’s ongoing epic period magnum opus, Ponniyin Selvan, went viral a couple of months ago.
Since then, Mani Ratnam and the film’s composer AR Rahman have been subjected to immense criticism for collaborating with Vairamuthu. The tainted poet was called out by several women, including playback singer Chinmayi, during the #MeToo movement last year.
Now, if the latest buzz in Kollywood circles is anything to go by, Vairamuthu has been dropped from Ponniyin Selvan. However, Madras Talkies is yet to make an official announcement about the latest development. The film’s shoot is currently underway in Thailand.
