Marking the sacred occasion of Shri Rama Navami, a new cinematic retelling of the Ramayana has been announced, promising scale, depth, and a fresh creative vision. Titled Valmiki Ramayana, the film is poised to reintroduce one of India’s most revered epics to contemporary audiences.

At the helm is director Bhavna Talwar, whose Dharm (2007) earned critical acclaim for its sensitive storytelling. With this ambitious project, she steps into a vastly larger canvas, supported by a powerhouse team of technicians.

Production design will be led by Sabu Cyril, known for crafting grand visual landscapes, while acclaimed cinematographer Binod Pradhan will bring the epic to life through his lens. Elevating the film’s auditory experience, Academy Award-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty joins the project, hinting at an immersive cinematic journey.

The narrative is being shaped by writer Anand Neelakantan, recognised for his reinterpretations of mythological tales, suggesting that this version may offer a distinctive perspective on the classic story. Dialogues are entrusted to Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi, who will also serve as Creative Consultant, ensuring both authenticity and dramatic weight.

The makers have locked October 2, 2026, as the film’s release date, positioning it as a major festive offering. Interestingly, Valmiki Ramayana will arrive amid a renewed cinematic interest in the epic, sharing the spotlight with ‘Ramayana,’ another large-scale adaptation directed by Nitesh Tiwari.

With multiple interpretations of the Ramayana set to unfold on the big screen within a short span, audiences can expect a fascinating clash of vision, storytelling styles, and cinematic scale.

Details about the cast, production timeline, and budget remain under wraps for now. Stay tuned for more details on this project.
