Maverick filmmaker SS Rajamouli is in Brazil, where he attended the 50th São Paulo International Film Festival and received the Leon Cakoff Award. During his visit, he spoke to Brazilian film portal Oxente Pipoca about his ambitious project, Varanasi.
When asked how many days of shooting were left, the RRR maker said, “Nearly 10 days, and then the shooting will be done.” He also said that the film would definitely come to Brazil.
Talking about the film, Rajamouli said it was like bringing six to seven films together into one. “Bringing them all together into a single film was our biggest challenge,” he said.
Explaining the story, Rajamouli said Varanasi is mainly about a father and son whose relationship is broken at first but is later restored. He also spoke about the beautiful relationship between a young man and a woman.
Rajamouli clarified that while the film may feel like a sci-fi movie, it is not one. Instead, it is more of a fantasy film with mythological elements.
The shooting is expected to wrap up by the end of this month, with the remaining work planned as scheduled. The team is aiming to release the film on April 7, 2027.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Prakash Raj play key roles in the film. KL Narayana and SS Karthikeya are the producers, while MM Keeravaani is composing the music.
