Wamiqa Gabbi’s Bhool Chuk Maaf skips theatres, heads to OTT – Here’s the real reason

In a sudden turn of events, Wamiqa Gabbi’s new film Bhool Chuk Maaf, which was all set for a theatrical release tomorrow (May 9, 2025), will now premiere directly on Amazon Prime Video on May 16, 2025. The last-minute change has surprised fans, but there’s a clear reason behind it.

Maddock Films, in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, issued a statement explaining the shift: “In light of recent events and heightened nationwide security drills, we have decided to take the OTT route.” Producer Dinesh Vijan emphasised that the decision was made keeping public safety and accessibility in mind.

This move reminds many of the pandemic-era pivots, when direct-to-digital releases became a norm. Is this an isolated case, or a sign of another wave of OTT-first strategies? That remains to be seen.

The film stars Rajkummar Rao and is helmed by director Karan Sharma. The ensemble cast includes Seema Pahwa, Sanjay Mishra, Raghubir Yadav, and Zakir Hussain. Music is composed by Tanishk Bagchi, with the score by Ketan Sodha.
