After a four-year hiatus, director Teja is back with Ahimsa, which marks the debut of Abhiram Daggubati as an actor. Check out our review to know how the movie fares.

Story

Raghu (Abhiram) and Ahalya (Geetika) are cousins with different beliefs. Raghu believes in non-violence, while Ahalya believes in violence. One day, Ahalya gets raped by a couple of rich guys and is admitted to a hospital. Raghu moves to court for justice, but finds everyone is against him. What does he do next? Did he choose violence to get justice? What did the culprits do next? The movie has all the answers.

Plus Points

Abhiram Daggubati, son of Daggubati Suresh Babu and brother of Rana Daggubati, makes an impressive debut. His performance as an innocent guy is noteworthy, and he has a promising future as an actor.

Geethika Tiwary makes her Telugu debut with this movie. She looks good, and even her performance as a hyperactive girl is nice, especially in the first half. Her scenes with Abhiram are enjoyable to watch.

The next character to be praised is Lawyer Lakshmi, played by Sada. Despite having a less screen time, she performs better than many other characters. Ravi Kale, Kalpalatha, Devi Prasad, and others also do justice to their roles.

A couple of songs, composed by RP Patnaik, are good to listen to. The court-related scenes and the proceedings in the first half are showcased very well. Sameer Reddy’s cinematography enhances the film’s visual quality.

Minus Points

Abhiram makes a decent debut, but he needs to improve his performance. Hopefully, he will do so in his upcoming movies.

The story is not new to audiences. Director Teja handles the film well in the first half with a fine screenplay but fails to continue it in the latter half. Had he concentrated more on the story and screenplay in the second half, the film’s fate would have been different.

The film has many characters, but the director doesn’t use them to their full potential. The villain Dhanalaxmi Dushyanth Rao, played by Rajat Bedi, could have been established as more villainous. The criminal lawyer’s role played by Manoj Singh Tiger is okay in the first half, but it ends up looking funny in the second half. His character could have been developed better. The Lombdi gang and their scenes are of no use in the movie.

Some of the scenes in both the halves are over the top. When the story is going on a serious note, Teja injects some comedy scenes and a special song, which ultimately turn down the audience’s mood.

The background score by Anup Rubens is unimpressive in the second half. Had he given a decent score, the film’s result would have been better.

Technical Aspects

Director Teja fails to deliver a hit again. He sticks to his old scripts, and Ahimsa has the shades of his old movies. He could have written a better story and screenplay to make Ahimsa a better film.

The music is okay, but the background score is unimpressive. The cinematography by Sameer Reddy is decent, and some of the wide shots look amazing. The editing could have been better, and Kotagiri Venkateshwara Rao should have chopped off many unnecessary scenes in both the halves. The production values are rich, and you can witness them on the big screens.

Verdict

On the whole, Ahimsa fails to impress because of the lackluster presentation. Abhiram Daggubati is fine in his debut act, and some of the scenes in the first half are decent. However, an even more impressive story with an engaging screenplay would have made Ahimsa a better fare.
