Jaathi Ratnaalu director Anudeep KV turned the writer for the film First Day First Show. The movie created a good buzz before its release. Let’s see how the movie is.

Story:

Set in 2001, the film revolves around Srinivas (Srikanth Reddy) an easy-going college student who is a die-hard fan of Power Star Pawan Kalyan. He loves his college mate Laya (Sanchita Basu) who also happens to be Pawan Kalyan’s fan. The actor’s Kushi film will be about to release and Srinivas would be trying hard to get the movie ticket. At the same time, Laya asks Srinivas for first-day first show tickets. To impress his love interest Srinivas puts in lots of effort to get them. Did he succeed? This forms part of the rest of the film.

Plus Points:

Vennela Kishore evokes a few laughs in the first half. A couple of comedy scenes are good. Pawan Kalyan fans can enjoy the actor’s references to an extent. The director himself played a small role in the film and he shines in it.

Srikanth Reddy who made his debut with the film is pretty good in his role. His expressions in a few scenes are quite good. Sanchita Basu is decent in her respective limited role. One-liners here and there are okayish. Tanikella Bharani is fine.

Minus Points:

The film has a wafer-thin storyline which isn’t actually strong enough to make a feature film. Running the complete film around such a small point is immature. Due to its plot point, everything looks silly on screen and we don’t get connected to the characters.

One more main issue is the makers tried very hard to generate humor and make it a comedy caper. It is where the film went completely insane and clueless. It feels like every character in the film has just one goal which is getting the first day first show ticket. For example, a character in the film says it is okay if he gets the film ticket over a political offer which is ridiculous.

The first half is somewhat okay but when it comes to the second half it tests the patience levels and is tiresome. The pre-climax to climax portions will make the audience lose their tolerance. What worked in Jaathi Ratnaalu didn’t work here as far as Anudeep’s writing is concerned. Also the film’s main concept goes meaningless with the climax.

Technical Aspects:

A song on the screen is good. The music by Radhan is decent. The cinematography by Prasanth is also fine.

Though the film is less than 2 hours, it feels like we are watching a very lengthy film. The editing team could have trimmed the film even better. Writer Anudeep has completely failed in coming up with a witty entertainer this time. Direction by Vamshidhar and Lakshminarayana is so bland.

Verdict:

On the whole First Day First Show is completely silly and absurd. The film has an okayish first half and an unbearable second half. The lead cast’s performance, a few comedy scenes here and there, and Vennela Kishore are its saving grace. Silly plot, immature narration, over-the-top designed comedy portions, and irritating characters make it a big letdown. You can skip the film.
