So, continuing the series of reviewing movies and suggesting shows during the lockdown period, our today’s pick is Karan Johar’s latest and original dating reality show What The Love. It is available on Netflix.

What’s it about?

Karan Johar invites some of the most good looking youngsters to his wild party. All those who attend the party are looking for their eternal love. Karan speaks to them and selects seven members from the group. In a seven-episode series, Karan sets each of the candidates with two different dates from whom they have to pick one at the end of the episode. The group consists of gays, girls, and cute boys. Every episode consists of a theme and Karan individually deals with each participant, gets them a makeover, and sets them up for love.

What’s Good

As usual, Karan Johar kills it with his superb anchoring skills. The way he speaks to the contestants, boosts their confidence, and gives them a makeover is quite entertaining to see. Every episode has a Bollywood celeb coming in that makes the show interesting. The fashion quotient is quite top class in the show. Also, the bold behavior of the contestants, how modern India thinks has been showcased well.

What’s Bad

The show looks forced in many areas. Especially when the contestants are sent to date their partners, everything looks fake and staged. Every story showcased is positive and has a happy ending which also looks over the top. At the end of each episode, the way things are framed between the couple, it looks way too silly.

Final Word

Karan Johar has always been the face of modern India and so is his Netflix original show What The Love. A dating show where he helps people find their love has an interesting concept but looks staged for the most part. This is a very modern show with bold ideologies for the Indian audience. But if you are the one who loves what’s spoken at the Koffee with Karan show and love to watch how dating game happens in India, give this show a shot. But be prepared to understand that everything is properly planned.
