Akkineni Nagarjuna’s new movie, Naa Saami Ranga, has hit the big screens today amidst decent buzz. Check out our review to know how it fares.
Story:
In Ambajipeta village, President Peddayya (Nasser) helps Kistayya’s (Nagarjuna) family during a crisis. Loyalist Kistayya loves Mahalaxmi, aka Varalu (Ashika Ranganath). However, an unexpected incident separates them. Dasu (Shabeer Kallarakkal), Peddayya’s son, wants to harm Kistayya and his brother Anji (Allari Naresh). Why the rivalry? Why did Varalu and Kistayya split? How is Bhaskar (Raj Tarun) connected to the story? The movie has all the answers.
Plus Points:
Nagarjuna’s enduring charm, complemented by his mass appeal and striking looks, remains consistently impressive. Fans find delight in his dialogue delivery and on-screen presence, as he delivers an acceptable performance in the role of an elder brother and a loyalist to Nasser.
Ashika Ranganathan deserves applause for greenlighting this project, even after being aware that she will be playing a character beyond her age. The actress captivates the audiences with her beauty and acting prowess, particularly shining in the scenes alongside Nagarjuna.
Allari Naresh entertains and leaves a lasting impression, especially in the second half. MM Keeravaani contributes effectively with his music, which sets the right emotional tones. The well-designed pre-climax and climax scenes add to the movie’s appeal, and the supporting cast delivers satisfactory performances.
Minus Points:
The film’s storyline lacks novelty for Telugu audiences, and the screenplay, managed by director Vijay Binni himself, could have been handled more effectively.
Characters played by Raj Tarun, Shabeer, and Rukshar Dhillon could have been developed further. Despite Vijay Binni’s neat direction, a more fast-paced screenplay could have elevated the overall impact. Prasanna Kumar’s involvement could have infused more heartwarming emotional scenes, particularly in the second half.
The emotional bond between Allari Naresh and Nagarjuna could have been better portrayed in the first half, influencing scenes in the latter half to provide enhanced entertainment for audiences.
A more vigorous portrayal of the villain and a more thoughtful placement of a couple of songs could have improved the overall experience.
Technical Aspects:
In his directorial debut, Vijay Binni handles the film effectively, but a more focused effort on a gripping screenplay could have yielded better results. Writer Prasanna Kumar could have concentrated more on the story’s betterment.
MM Keeravaani elevates numerous scenes with his impressive background score, effectively capturing the right mood for love, action, and sadness. Nice editing and cinematography contribute to the film’s quality, with appreciable production values. The art department also deserves recognition for its valuable contributions.
Verdict:
On the whole, Naa Saami Ranga is a watchable village drama. Nagarjuna, Allari Naresh, and Ashika Ranganathan deliver decent performances. However, the slow-paced first half and the absence of significant highlight sequences pose as the main hurdles. While the movie may not appeal to all sections of the audience, it promises enjoyment for mass and family audiences this festive season.
