Hero Sundeep Kishan has turned producer with the much-talked-about horror thriller, Ninu Veedani Needani Nene, in which he also played the main lead. After creating a decent buzz, NVNN has finally hit theaters today. Let’s see how the movie has fared.

Story:

Rishi (Sundeep Kishan) and Diya (Anya Singh) are a newly married couple. Their lives take a mysterious turn after a car accident. On the night of the accident, Rishi and Diya casually look at the mirror in their home and get the shock of their lives when they see not theirs but the reflections of another couple, Arjun (Vennela Kishore) and Madhavi.

Rishi decides to solve the mystery and meets a psychiatrist (Murli Sharma). Twist in the tale arises when Inspector Posani (Posani Krishna Murali) cracks the mystery and reveals that it’s actually Arjun (Sundeep) and Madhavi (Anya) who are haunting Rishi (Vennela Kishore) and his wife Diya by entering their mind and body.

Will Arjun unearth the mystery behind his and his wife’s deaths? Will Arjun and Madhavi leave Rishi and his wife Diya’s lives? You need to watch the film to know the rest of the story.

Plus Points:

The interesting premise of a couple entering another couple’s minds and bodies after death is the main highlight of NVNN. A few spooky moments in the mirror track, the first comedy scene featuring Posani and Murli Sharma and the interesting twists at the interval and the climax make up for an engaging thriller.

Sundeep Kishan’s performance is quite good. He looks charming in the romantic scenes with an equally effervescent Anya Singh. Sundeep’s emotional performance in the scenes where he tries to unravel the mystery and then the scenes with his parents towards the climax deserves a special mention. Anya Singh looks pretty and emotes very well. She is a good find.

The scenes featuring Murali Sharma and Posani add intrigue and humor elements to the proceedings. Vennela Kishore gets a crucial role and he shines as expected with his humor and helplessness.

Minus Points:

After an intriguing first 30 minutes, the film slowly loses its pace later and only picks up the momentum at the interval, thanks to an unexpected twist. Until then, the writer-director banks on some spooky elements and momentary thrills to keep the audiences engaged.

Even the second half has some lethargic writing, with the much-needed and much-awaited surprise coming only in the climax. What happens until then is Sundeep’s pursuit to unearth the mystery. At times, some unnecessary comedy scenes only slow down the pace. The flashback episode in this half should have been trimmed a little.

Technical Aspects:

Director Caarthick Raju comes up with a very intriguing and innovative storyline. However, he only partly succeeds in executing the mystery and the spooky elements in a more engaging manner.

Thaman’s background score is riveting. The songs are well composed and well shot too. Caarthick bravely includes an emotional song in the climax and it’s very moving. Cinematography by PK Varma is quite impressive. Especially, the night interior scenes are shot very well.

Chota K Prasad’s editing is good, but he should have cut short some of the scenes involving Posani and Murli Sharma. The film ends on a happy note, but your hearts will be heavy by then. Sundeep gives out an important message at the end. Production values are adequate.

Verdict:

On the whole, NVNN is a decently engaging thriller. Barring a few dull episodes in the first and second halves, the film has intriguing elements and twists which will keep the audience hooked for most of the time. NVNN is less on horror and more on supernatural elements. Thriller lovers looking for something different may give NVNN a watch this weekend.
