Oka Chinna Family Story, a ZEE5 original featuring Sangeeth Shobhan, Naresh, Getup Sreenu, Tulasi, and others in the lead roles is available for streaming now. Here’s our review of the series.

Story:

Mahesh (Sangeeth) is a carefree youngster who leads a directionless life. All of a sudden, his father passed away and he is now handed over the responsibility of taking care of his family. Later, he comes to know that his father(Naresh) had taken a bank loan of Rs 25 lakh. Can Mahesh repay the loan taken by his father? What is the story behind the loan?

Plus Points:

Sangeeth Shobhan plays the male lead and he comes up with a natural performance. He looks settled in the role. Naresh as a caring yet vexed father delivers a spotless performance. Tulasi is in her element. Simran Sharma as male lead’s love interest looks gorgeous on screen. The series is powered by fine performances from the lead cast.

The final 30 minutes of the last episode forms the crux of the series and the same is presented in a compelling manner. The writing is subtle and the emotional connect is of desired level. The good ending rounds off the whole series.

Minus Points:

The series loses its way in the middle portion as unnecessary subplots take the centre stage. The tricks played by the protagonist to avoid the ‘loan’ problem look silly.

There is some noticeable lag in the 3rd and 4th episodes as things turn a tad monotonous. The story is dragged to fulfil the run-time quota. Crisp writing could have worked very well in these episodes.

Technical Aspects:

The director Mahesh Uppala presents his story in an emotionally engaging manner. The way he handles the end portion is very good. But more attention was needed to the middle portion of the series as a fair few scenes look stretched out. The background score is riveting and it gels with the theme. The cinematography is of good quality.

Verdict:

Oka Chinna Family Story is a tale of a middle class family. The ‘loans’ and ‘financial crunch’ track is relatable. The ending portion forms the soul and it is presented well. There is a fair bit of lag in the middle portion though. The series makes for a decent watch this weekend.
