Young actor Vishwak Sen who gained a good youth following has now come up with a rom-com Ori Devuda directed by Ashwath Marimuthu. The film has Victory Venkatesh in a cameo. Mithila Palkar and Asha Bhat are making their debuts. The film has hit the screens today, and let’s see how it is.

Story:

Arjun Durgaraj (Vishwak Sen) and Anu Paulraj (Mithila Palkar) are buddies since their childhood. Upon request of Anu, Arjun marries Anu and starts a new life. Arjun joins his father-in-law’s office but is vexed with the job. At the same time, he develops feelings for his school senior, Meera (Asha Bhat). Hence, Arjun applies for divorce, but Anu faints in the court due to the divine intervention of Venkatesh. The almighty gives him a second chance to resurrect his life. What Arjun does with the second chance forms the crux of the story.

Plus Points:

This is a regular love story, but the director brilliantly gives the fantasy touch. Venkatesh’s god character adds novelty to the proceedings and generates interest. Venkatesh is as ever charming and excels in his cameo. His body language and looks are perfect.

We have seen Vishwak Sen play a soft role in his earlier flick. With Ori Devuda, Vishwak once again proves that he can fit into diverse roles as well. He emotes pretty good in emotional scenes and does subtle acting which the film demands. The actor showed an ample amount of variation in his role.

Mithila Palkar performed well as a chirpy girl. Her chemistry with Vishwak Sen is good. Especially her act in the climax portions is nice. Asha Bhat also gets a meaty role in the film. Her character is well-written, and she gets a peppy dance number to showcase her dancing skills.

The film’s second half offers a joyful ride with a few dramatic moments. The story moves at a good pace in this part. The fun portions are fair, as the comedy punches written by Tharun Bhascker make us laugh well. The light-hearted treatment keeps the film simple.

Minus Points:

The film takes time to get into the actual plot. It is only during the second half much of the story happens, and the first hour doesn’t offer much. The pacing is very slow in the first half. Had the proceedings been crispier, the overall impact could have been higher.

The movie gets dragged at places, and the editing team should have chopped the film a bit to make matters more engaging. A few scenes lack the punch, and this is when the film becomes slightly dull. Anu’s characterization requires more depth too. We don’t get to see much of Anu’s part. The writing team should have concentrated on this aspect.

The VFX work at places in the film is patchy and looks odd on the big screen. This rom-com may not gel with all the sections of the audience. At the same time, the film isn’t overwhelming as well. A few aspects should have been better to make it more magical.

Technical Aspects:

The music by Leon James is pleasant to listen to. Gundellona and Avunanava songs stand out and add impact to the drama. The camerawork by Vidhu Ayyana is fair. The production values are decent.

As said earlier, the editing team should have cut short the film a little. Coming to director Ashwath Marimuthu, he does a decent job with the remake. His narration in the second half is more engaging, but his screenplay in the first hour isn’t that impressive. He successfully brought out the best in Vishwak Sen, Mithila, and Asha Bhat.

Verdict:

On the whole, Ori Devuda is a decent rom-com that offers a pleasant drama in the second half. All the lead cast does well, and the songs also help the film big time. Barring the okayish first half, the movie is a watchable rom-com this weekend.
