Continuing the trend of reviewing films and shows on digital platforms, we look at 30 WEDS 21, a web series that is now live on Youtube.
Stroy:
Prithivi(Chaitanya Rao) is a middle-class 30-year-old software engineer who is confused about his marriage. Upon his father’s force, he gets married to Meghana(Ananya) who is just 21. This age gap does not go well with Prithvi and he fails to adjust with his wife who is quite cool about life. The rest of the story is as to how this unique pair finds love in marriage and lives happily ever after.
Plus Points:
The best thing about the series is the fine writing. Though the story looks simple, the way it is written and narrated by director Prithivi Vanam with simple yet beautiful emotions is quite impressive. The setting is simple and the topic chosen is quite contemporary and very relatable as well.
Coming to the performances, the lead pair walk away with major credit as they give impressive performances. The hero, Chaitanya Rao as the confused 30-year-old is quite good. The manner in which he showcases his hesitation towards the relationship and brought out the guilt factor was very good.
Heroine Ananya is the best part of the show. She as the 21-year-old Meghana is confident, has a good screen presence, and also emotes well. If handled well, she has a bright future as she is quite expressive. The confrontations between the lead pair, dialogues, and basic philosophy of relationship told are quite good.
Minus Points:
Story-wise, there is nothing new in the series and there are a few scenes that look repeated. Also, the scenes are dragged here and there and were showcased just for the sake of it. The emotions from the hero’s side and how he changes his mind should have been elevated a bit more in the last episode to make things a bit more effective.
Technical Aspects:
Music by Jose Jimmy is quite impressive. The BGM and small song bits used are very good. Production values of the series are just about okay. The camerawork is decent. Coming to the director Prithivi he has done a decent job. He takes the age gap issue of a couple and narrates the differences between them in a simple yet convincing manner.
Verdict:
On the whole, 30 Weds 21 is a romantic comedy that has a breezy narration. The backdrop is contemporary and the lead pair’s chemistry is striking. If you ignore the simple storyline, this short and sweet web series is worth giving a shot this weekend.
