Prime Video has now come up with the web series “Indian Police Force,” which is directed by Rohit Shetty, who is known for his masala entertainers. Sidharth Malhotra, Shilpa Shetty, and Mayyank Taandon in the lead roles. Let’s see how it is.

Story:

A series of bomb blasts happen in the National Capital, and it sends shockwaves to Delhi Police. Kabir Malik (Sidharth Malhotra) and Vikram Bakshi (Vivek Oberoi), who are part of a special unit of Delhi Police, are given the responsibility to hunt down the terrorists responsible for blasts. Gujarat ATS Chief Tara Shetty (Shilpa Shetty) helps Kabir and Vikram Bakshi in solving the case. With the help of Tara, Kabir and Vikram get close to Haider, a.k.a Zarar (Mayyank Taandon), who is the mastermind behind the serial blasts. The rest of the show showcases the battle between the cops and terrorists.

Plus Points:

If you are someone who loves watching action flicks, Indian Police Force will impress you big time. All the action scenes and chasing sequences in the show are neatly conceived, and they look terrific on screen. Special care has been taken with regard to the action blocks, and hence, they don’t look routine. Also, the way they are captured by the cinematographers Girish Kant and Raza Mehta is pretty impressive. Especially the hand to hand combats are superb.

There isn’t much scope in the series to showcase his ability as an actor, but Sidharth Malhotra delivers what is required. He was pretty good in the action part. The show stealer, however, is Mayyank Taandon. He was menacing as a terrorist and played his role to the tee. Also, his character is neatly presented, and the cat-and-mouse game with the cops engages in parts. Apart from the action blocks, the locations where the series is shot grab our attention.

Minus Points:

For all those who are used to watching Rohit Shetty’s masala entertainers, Indian Police Force will be a harmless watch. Rohit Shetty’s narration is straightforward, without twists and turns, and the series is a no-brainer. If you expect solid characterizations, and a well-researched plot, you will be disappointed as there isn’t anything new that has been showcased here. There are logical errors and silly scenes in Indian Police Force.

Web shows are generally known for their in-depth narrative style, and filmmakers use this format to convey what they couldn’t do in feature films. But the Indian Police Force looks more like a film and less like a web series. Rohit Shetty uses his typical commercial elements to keep the proceedings going. Shilpa Shetty and Vivek Oberoi don’t get enough screen time, so they hardly make any impact. Isha Talwar is wasted in a cameo. The VFX works are pathetic for a show of this scale.

Technical Aspects:

The music composed by Lijo George-DJ and Chetas, is just okay. The background score should have been much better. The cinematographers Girish Kant and Raza Mehta did an impressive job. The manner in which all the action blocks are shot provides a great experience to the viewers. The editing is crisp, and the pacing is racy for the most part. The production values are awesome, but enough care should have been taken regarding VFX works.

Along with Rohit Shetty, Sushwanth Prakash also directed this action series. As mentioned earlier, Rohit Shetty and his team deliver a masala entertainer that has its share of pros and cons. While the action blocks are superb, the director should have concentrated more on the story and the logical part.

Verdict:

On the whole, Indian Police Force is a masala entertainer that will appeal more to action lovers. The series has impressive action blocks, and they look very realistic. Sidharth Malhotra and Mayyank Taandon did a very good job. The cat-and-mouse game between cops and the antagonist works to an extent. Rohit Shetty delivers a typical action drama with formulaic narration, and if one expects out-of-the-box content, he/she might be disappointed. So, if your expectations are set correctly, Indian Police Force will end up being a passable watch.
