Written and adapted by Nagesh Kukunoor, Shashi Sudigala, and Bahaish Kapoor, Modern Love Hyderabad is a six-episode web series based on the American television series Modern Love. The show was released on Amazon Prime Video. Let’s see how it is.

Story:

Modern Love Hyderabad is an anthology series that has 6 different stories. Each story represents a specific kind of relation and a different facet of love. All of the stories explore one common human feeling ‘love’ which is universal. It is showcased through different age groups and different sets of people. The six stories explore about mother and daughter whose relationship is broken, a couple who has understanding issues, the relationship between a grandmother and her grandchild, the relationship between a producer and stand-up comedian, a relationship between a daughter and her father who is over protective about her, and a girl who is so confused about whom she want to share life with. Each story has got a different backdrop but all of them happen in the bustling city of Hyderabad.

Plus Points:

The writing is undoubtedly the biggest asset of the show. The original show was customised according to the taste and nativity of our audience. Be it about the mother and daughter who are forced to stay during the pandemic, or the overprotective father who secretly spies on his daughter for her well-being, the writing team did an exceptional job.

The stories are very simple in nature. Yet they are narrated in a light-hearted manner with many overwhelming and heartwarming moments and they entertain us emotionally. The essence of the historical city was superbly combined with the stories.

The show highlights the complexities involved in relationships in modern times in a breezy manner. The conversations are well written and have depth. The scenes are beautifully woven which makes the characters endearing.

Coming to the performances everyone did a brilliant job. Suhasini, Naresh, Nithya Menen, and Revathy are the show stealers. The stories of Revathy and Nithya Menen, and Naresh and Ulka Gupta stand apart and they remain memorable

Minus Points:

On the flip side, the narration in a few episodes isn’t that great and they feel a bit dragged. The editor could have cropped off a few scenes in a few episodes to make the stories more engrossing.

The pace of the show is somewhat slow and it could have been handled well.

As the stories are very simple and they make us feel a bit predictable towards the end of them. Few characters get less screen space which doesn’t make them unforgettable. The ending of a couple of episodes could have been even better to create more impact.

Technical Aspects:

Technically the show is outstanding. The writers Nagesh Kukunoor, Shashi Sudigala, and Bahaish Kapoor, did an extraordinary job and their dialogues are praiseworthy. The directors Nagesh Kukunoor, Venkatesh Maha, Uday Gurrala, and Devika Bahudhanam should be admired for the way they depicted the stories.

Nagesh Kukunoor and his team should be given credit for the way they presented all the stories in an engaging and emotional way. The music is very pleasant and it sets the mood according to the narrative

The title track needs a special mention. The cinematography is top-notch and it captured the historical city in a splendid manner. Production values are best, to say the least.

Verdict:

On the whole, Modern Love Hyderabad is a beautifully made web series with spell binding performances from the core cast. The makers presented the stories in a pleasing and entertaining way for the most part. Though the series has certain flaws but it doesn’t have much impact overall. If you are a fan of love stories, you can start streaming the show without an inch of doubt. The series is very much worth your time.
