Hero Gopichand is going through a series of flops and has pinned a lot of hopes on his new film Pantham which has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.

Story :

Vikranth(Gopichand)plans a series of robberies on noted politicians. After a major robbery at his house, home minister, Nayak(Sampath) orders for an inquiry. To his shock, he comes to know that the man behind these robberies is Vikranth and why he has done all this. Who is this Vikranth? What is his backstory? Why did he target the politicians? To know all this, you have to watch the film on the silver screen.

Plus Points :

Hero Gopichand leads from the front and gives a rock solid performance. As expected, he is good with his fights and also improved his acting. His performance especially during the crucial court scene is very impressive.

Comedy episodes featuring Prudhvi and Srinivasa Reddy are good in most areas. Sampath did a good job as a corrupt minister and brings a lot of depth to the film.

The first half has been kept light with good robberies being showcased one after the other and the second half is where the actual plot is revealed with a twist. The social message which has been shown is quite good and has a lot relatable connect.

Minus Points :

There is absolutely no chemistry between the lead pair in the film which is a slight drawback in the first half. Mehrene has not been styled well and her track is a put off in the film. Once the plot is revealed, things get quite predictable and routine in the second half.

There is nothing new in the story line as robbery based films like these have been made many a time in the past. Even though the social message given looks good, the way the proceedings are narrated does not give the necessary push to the film.

The music of the film is also hugely disappointing and does not help things in both the halves. Also, the songs come in as speed breakers to the flow of the film. The movie runs mostly on Sampath and Gopichand’s thread and this is where things get a bit boring in the second half.

Technical Aspects :

Production values by K Radha Mohan are very good as a lot of money has been spent on the film. The camera work is also decent and showcases the film in a good light. Dialogues written about the social issues are very good and hard hitting. Editing is decent and so was the production design.

Coming to the director Chakri, he has done just an okay job with the film. He has chosen a relatively outdated subject and added a contemporary social issue to it. But the way he has showcased the film in the second half leaves a lot to be desired. But he manages things well during the climax and ends things on a passable note.

Verdict :

On the whole, Pantham is a passable social drama with showcases a decent message. Even though the story is outdated, director Chakri has made sure that there is some fun in the first half and climax is satisfactory. The film has a chance to do well in the B and C centers but the multiplex audience will find things quite routine, hence making this film just an average watch this weekend.
