Even though Ram Gopal Varma has lost his charm, he continues to make movies that no one is interested in these days. His latest film Ammayi has hit the screens today and let’s see how it is.

Story:

Pooja (Pooja Bhalekar) is an ardent fan of Bruce Lee and comes to the city to learn martial arts. She starts training under a senior coach who is under huge pressure to vacate his den which is crores worth. The bad guys (Abhimanyu Singh and co) kill the coach and Pooja is left alone to handle the situation. How she faces the situation is the whole story of the film.

Plus Points:

Off late, it has become very hard to pick up plus points in an RGV film. One such asset is the main lead Pooja Bhalekar. She is good in all her action blocks and does a sincere job in the film. Pooja is quite flexible and has an athletic body.

Abhimanyu Singh is okay in his negative role. The actor who played Pooja’s boyfriend was decent. The climax sequence has been shot well and shows the action block in a gripping manner.

Minus Points:

The film is filled with so many demerits that all of them cannot be put out here. Let’s start with the story of the film. The script is so old and mundane that there is absolutely nothing new to even talk about.

RGV is an ardent admirer of Bruce Lee and would have come across Pooja Bhalekar who is also a martial arts expert in real life. He has taken her as the heroine to show what moves she can do to imitate Bruce Lee.

RGV shows his ‘Paithyam’ by giving the heroine a two-piece bikini in all the fights and showcases her in the most sexist manner which looks vulgar after a while.

Emotion and drama are the main assets in any RGV film but there is absolutely nothing happening here in Ammayi and makes you cringe with poor performances done by the C-grade actors.

Technical Aspects:

The camerawork is okay. The music is impressive and so was the BGM as well. Production values are okay and so were the lyrics. Coming to the director RGV, the less we speak about him much better. He has lost it as all his films these days are filled with sleaze and Ammayi is no exception. In the name of an action film, all he shows is semi-nudity in slow motion.

Verdict:

On the whole, Ammayi is an action drama that looks outdated, cheap, and lacks a basic soul. RGV loves Bruce Lee and showed his style of action through the heroine Pooja Bhalekar which is vulgar and offers nothing new. Stay away from this one.
