After scoring their career biggest hits, Nivin Pauly and Soori joined hands for the film Sapthasagaralu Sapthagirulu (Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai). The Telugu dubbed version is now out in cinemas. Let’s see how it is.
Story:
An immortal man (Nivin Pauly) who has survived over 8000 years meets a Dubai return (Soori) on a train. The former puts the latter through hell in a secluded compartment. Does the Dubai return survive? Why is the immortal man after him? What is his story? How did he attain immortality? The film has the answers.
Plus Points:
The beginning portions initially draw intrigue with the introduction of an immortal man who behaves like a madman. Some comedy scenes that come in this regard work mildly.
Nivin Pauly taking up the role of a madman is definitely appreciable. He does well even though the written material falls well short of its potential. As a person in trouble, Soori performs nicely, while Anjali delivers a fine performance too.
Minus Points:
The first half comes across as unconventional, with some elements generating interest, while some scenes feel boring. A few scenes surely test our patience, but we look forward to the second half to see if the wait is rewarding. Unfortunately, that is where things go terribly wrong.
The part of the film is extremely boring, difficult to sit through, and unnecessarily stretched. After the film ends, you will start wondering what the director even wanted to convey. What begins as an unconventional fairy tale soon turns into a tiresome experience.
AI-generated visuals have been used beyond a reasonable limit, and after a while, they become distracting and pull us completely out of the film. This clearly reflects the lack of effort and the makers taking the audience for granted. The emotional bond between the lead pair also lacks depth.
Technical Aspects:
Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music is just okay, while Ekhambram’s cinematography is neat, as he does well within the confined space where the majority of the proceedings take place. The editing is poor, with many scenes overstaying their welcome.
Director Ram surely has some interesting ideas, but he fails to knit them together properly, ultimately delivering an uninteresting and patience-testing affair.
Verdict:
On the whole, Sapthasagaralu Sapthagirulu turns out to be an exhausting watch despite some interesting ideas. The excessive use of AI-generated visuals, dragged-out narrative, and pointless climax make the experience increasingly tiresome. Nivin Pauly and Soori perform well, but they can’t do much when the director fails to deliver.
