Noted heroine, Andrea Jeremiah’s Tamil film, Taramani has been dubbed in Telugu with the same title. Directed by Ram, the film has hit the screens today. Let’s analyze it.
Story:
An independent working women Athiya (Andrea) comes across a depressed love failure guy called Prabhu(Vasanth Ravi) at a bus stop on a rainy day. After a brief void, they both start exchanging thoughts. Later, a friendship blooms between them which eventually turns into a live-in relationship. How will the couple balance their relationship? Will they face any hurdles in the meantime? How will they deal with further situations? That forms the rest of the story.
Plus Points:
The chemistry between Andrea and Vasanth Ravi is the main highlight of the film. A couple of scenes between Andrea and Vasanth during the first half are showcased in a natural way and they bring a lot of depth to the proceedings in a nice way. Heroine Anjali is okay in her special appearance.
Andrea shines yet again in a strong and impulsive women’s character. She suits her role of a techie perfectly. Two montage songs which come during the first half are good. Vasanth Ravi is equally good in his youthful role and delivers an impressive performance. The possessive nature of today’s youth has been projected in a realistic manner.
Minus Points:
After a passable narration in the first half, the film’s pace drops in the second half with a crawling narration. Though the proceedings during this time showcase some real-life incidents, they are executed on a dull note.
Those who expect some glamour show from Andrea will be disappointed as she has done a performance-oriented role. Being narrated in a realistic manner, the film lacks commercial parameters like comedy and duets. The last thirty minutes of the film with various subplots are addressed on a dull note and lacks clarity.
Technical Aspects:
Director Ram’s concept is nice and had the potential to work at the box office if executed in the right commercial manner. But as he chooses to deal it in a realistic manner, the output does not look that effective. Editing by A. Sreekar Prasad is bad as close to twenty minutes of the film can be chopped off easily to make things appealing. The cinematography by Theni Eswar is decent. Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is good and his background score is also nice. Production values for this limited budget film are okay.
Verdict:
On the whole, Taramani is a realistic drama which showcases the over possessiveness of today’s youth towards their loved ones. Andrea and Vasanth Ravi’s screen presence and chemistry in the first half are executed nicely but the slow-paced and disappointing second half, lack of commercial elements may not give a universal appeal hence making the film a dull watch this weekend. Look for something else interesting.
